Sunday best and my bad taste in liturgical music

Linking up with FLAP and Camp Patton for the Sunday things!

I was “explaining” how to take a better photo. After I saw this one I realized why Oskar tends to glaze over when I give instructions. It’s my face.

If there is any time Oskar and I are bound to argue, it’s Sunday in the morning. The problem is that he has NO tolerance for 95% of the music played at Masses in the diocese of Fresno. The only Mass with music he can stand is the 8 AM at a parish 20 minutes away. There is a string quartet and cantor, and that’s it. Unfortunately, Max and I are not early birds, or even mid-morning birds. We will sleep in until 10 if we can, especially on Sundays because Saturdays are usually fun-filled and bedtime is later. Lucia and Oskar are another story; they bright eyed and busy tailed at 6 every morning.

When we try to get the whole gang out the door by 7:30 AM, at least 50% of us are cranky and unpleasant. The other 50% are all chattery and annoying (at least in my opinion). Commence arguing, which is a bummer because it’s no way to prepare for receiving Christ. I know, I need to grow up, suck it up and just wake up in time to go to the good Mass. Easier said than done, especially because I am not easily offended by the bad church music. I mean, I know certain stuff is objectively better, but as long as there is no drum or other percussion instruments, I’m usually ok. I even enjoy some sappy nonsense from my childhood.

ANYWAY, due to the fact I didn’t get to sleep until 2 last night (caffeine at 7 pm was a bad, bad idea), Oskar had mercy on me and allowed me to sleep in. He and the Lu went early, I went at 10. I got to listen to “Eagle’s Wings” and “Amazing Grace” without Oskie rolling his eyes next to me. Win-win, except for the fact that we really would rather go together. Maybe the 5th year of marriage is when we’ll learn to tone down the stubborn thing.

Kids’ grades:
Lucia- Oskar reports an A for sweetly smiling at the surrounding church-goers.
Max- He gets an incomplete for not going.

Family finery:

My dress is Michael Kors from TJ Maxx, shoes are Nicole from DSW, and belt is IHaveNoIdea from IHaveNoClue. Lulu is wearing Carters and Max is in Nautica from the Costco.

Oskar and his clone (well, female clone).

A sweet picture of max and Avo, if you disregard his aiming a nerf dart gun at my face.
